A key measure of team excellence is the multidisciplinary nature of the cluster, with diverse perspectives and expertise allowing for cross-talk and new translational collaborations.
Preclinical researchers affiliated with the Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health (DMCBH), UBC Psychiatry, Psychology, Anaesthesiology, Neurology, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology, will draw on deep understanding of molecular, systems, cognitive, and behavioural neurosciences, pharmacology, chemistry, and drug development to seek new insights into biological mechanisms and novel treatments of neuropsychiatric disorders using animal models, guided by clinical priorities.
From the perspective of clinical research and therapy, clinician-researchers affiliated with UBC Departments of Psychiatry, Anesthesiology, Pharmacology & Therapeutics, Pediatrics, Emergency Medicine, School of Population and Public Health, etc. and various health care providers (DMCBH, Provincial Health Services Authority, Vancouver Coastal Health, Providence Healthcare, Vancouver General, Richmond, and BC Children’s Hospitals, etc.) will contribute invaluable clinical expertise in treating mental health conditions across the lifespan and evaluating the efficacy, safety and feasibility of novel interventions in clinical trials.
